As part of an academic field trip to Vietnam, a group of MBA students from Stanford University (USA) visited SolarBK and IREX Energy. For most participants, this was their first time in Vietnam, and the visit provided valuable real-world insights into the increasingly strategic role of renewable energy in the growth trajectory of a rapidly transforming economy like Vietnam.
During the session, the delegation listened to Mr. Nguyen Duong Tuan share SolarBK’s nearly 20-year journey of bringing green energy closer to everyday life. Over the past two decades, SolarBK has become one of the pioneering renewable energy companies in Vietnam, gradually building a closed-loop ecosystem comprising manufacturing (IREX), R&D & EPC (SolarBK), financing (SolarESCO), and distribution (SolarGATES), delivering comprehensive energy solutions for businesses and communities. This integrated value-chain approach reflects a development model that is increasingly becoming a global trend in fast-growing renewable energy markets.
During the working session, the delegation listened to Mr. Nguyen Duong Tuan share SolarBK’s 20-year journey of bringing green energy closer to everyday life.
After nearly 20 years of development, SolarBK has deployed more than 126 MW of installed capacity, served over 2,000 customers, expanded operations to 10 countries, and received strategic investment support from Banpu Next toward its 1 GW clean energy target. Notable projects such as Truong Sa, VinFast, LEGO, Vincom, and many others nationwide have contributed significantly to Vietnam’s sustainable energy transition.
Sharing his experience in Vietnam, Stanford MBA student Davis Ray commented:
“What impressed me most is that renewable energy in Vietnam is not just an optional solution—it is an essential part of the country’s growth story. The development of solar and wind power plays a critical role in ensuring strong economic momentum for the future.”
Meanwhile, Philipp Gerber noted:
“The visit helped me better understand Vietnam’s increasingly prominent role in the global energy transition, as well as how SolarBK is effectively bringing clean energy solutions into practical application.”
Davis Ray, a Stanford MBA student (in a white shirt, taking notes), was particularly impressed by SolarBK’s ability to build a comprehensive clean energy ecosystem.
Stanford University is consistently ranked among the world’s leading universities in education, research, and innovation. In particular, the MBA program at Stanford Graduate School of Business is regularly recognized as one of the best globally by prestigious rankings such as Bloomberg Businessweek, QS Global MBA Rankings, and LinkedIn MBA Rankings. The selection of SolarBK and IREX as field-study destinations reflects the growing interest of top global leadership training institutions in the role of Vietnamese enterprises in the global energy transition.
Entering 2026, SolarBK marks its 20-year milestone and steps into a new phase of expansion, with continued investments in technology, manufacturing, and financial solutions aligned with Vietnam’s Net Zero 2050 commitment. A highlight of this strategy is the cooperation agreement between SolarBK and TPBank Ba Dinh to finance a 91.5 MWp rooftop solar project integrated with a 185 MWh BESS energy storage system, one of the largest integrated storage projects currently in Vietnam.
At the same time, IREX Energy has partnered with Hamada Co., Ltd. (Japan) to develop a solar panel recycling project in Vietnam, targeting a processing capacity of approximately 40,000 panels per year. The project marks an important milestone in Vietnam–Japan technology cooperation while contributing to the advancement of circular economy models in the renewable energy sector.
The Stanford MBA delegation also visited IREX Energy Joint Stock Company.
The Stanford MBA delegation’s visit was not only an academic exchange activity but also an opportunity to directly explore Vietnam’s dynamic energy transition landscape—an emerging market with practical and scalable renewable energy deployment models. It also opened new dialogue channels between Vietnamese enterprises and the international academic community, paving the way for collaborative initiatives tailored to regional development needs.
