As manufacturers face increasing pressure to optimize energy costs, reduce carbon emissions, and meet ESG requirements across global supply chains, integrating rooftop solar with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is emerging as a key solution for improving energy efficiency and operational resilience.
SolarBK has recently achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of Phase 2 of the rooftop solar project integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sedo Vinako Factory in Da Nang. The project comprises 2,168.76 kWp of rooftop solar PV and 2,349 kWh of battery energy storage.
This is SolarBK's first commercial Solar + BESS project to reach COD, marking an important milestone in expanding the company's portfolio of integrated energy solutions beyond the rooftop solar systems it has deployed across Vietnam.
SolarBK has recently achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of Phase 2 of the rooftop solar project integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sedo Vinako Factory in Da Nang.
The project was developed under the ESCO model by Esco NEXT, a joint venture between SolarESCO (a member of SolarBK) and Banpu NEXT, allowing the customer to deploy a solar-plus-storage solution without bearing the full upfront investment cost.
With a storage capacity of 2,349 kWh, the BESS does more than simply store surplus solar energy. It enables the factory to optimize load management by storing excess electricity generated during periods of lower consumption, such as lunch breaks, and supplying it when demand increases. This helps maximize on-site renewable energy utilization, reduce reliance on grid electricity, optimize energy costs, and improve operational flexibility. As manufacturers increasingly pursue energy efficiency and sustainability, integrated Solar + BESS solutions are becoming an attractive option for export-oriented businesses.
Addressing the Technical Challenges of a Pioneer Project
As SolarBK's first commercial Solar + BESS project, the implementation presented a series of technical challenges from the earliest stages of engineering and design.
Initial structural assessments indicated that the existing factory roof required reinforcement to accommodate the additional load of the integrated system. Rather than reducing the project scale, SolarBK's engineering team developed a structural strengthening solution to ensure long-term safety, reliability, and system performance.
The project was developed under the ESCO model by Esco NEXT,
Meanwhile, construction was carried out while the factory remained fully operational. This required close coordination among the project owner, plant operations team, and SolarBK's engineers to maintain construction progress while minimizing disruption to manufacturing activities.
Successfully delivering the project on schedule demonstrates not only SolarBK's capabilities in engineering, EPC execution, and project management, but also its ability to deploy integrated energy solutions with complex technical requirements—laying the foundation for future Solar + BESS projects.
Trust Built on Proven Performance
As a manufacturing partner of global brands including IKEA (Sweden), ADEO, and Walmart, Sedo Vinako faces increasingly stringent requirements regarding carbon reduction, renewable energy sourcing, and sustainable supply chain practices. Investing in rooftop solar combined with BESS therefore not only helps optimize energy costs but also strengthens the company's competitiveness while supporting its ESG commitments.
However, the decision to proceed with Phase 2 was driven not only by the need to expand the system, but also by confidence built on the proven performance of the first phase.
SolarBK has recently achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of Phase 2 of the rooftop solar project integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sedo Vinako Factory in Da Nang.
In February 2024, SolarBK completed a 1,624.7 kWp rooftop solar system for Sedo Vinako under the ESCO model invested by Esco NEXT. The system helps the factory save approximately VND 2 billion in electricity costs annually, generate around 2,300 I-RECs each year, and reduce approximately 1,600 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, supporting compliance with increasingly stringent sustainability requirements from export markets such as Europe and North America.
SolarBK's partnership with Sedo Vinako extends beyond project delivery. In August 2025, during the commissioning ceremony of the Phu An Spinning Mill rooftop solar project, SolarBK presented 1,000 Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to Sedo Vinako to support the company's carbon reduction targets and increase its share of renewable energy in line with the expectations of global customers.
Sedo Vinako also became the first customer to partner with Esco NEXT on commercial operation projects and the first to successfully implement and commission SolarBK's integrated Solar + BESS solution.
In the B2B sector, a repeat project is often a stronger endorsement than any testimonial. Sedo Vinako's decision to continue working with SolarBK after experiencing the proven performance of Phase 1 is a clear recognition of the company's solution quality, execution capability, and long-term partnership approach.
For SolarBK, the value of this project extends beyond its 2,168.76 kWp solar capacity and 2,349 kWh battery storage system. It represents another step in strengthening the company's capabilities in delivering integrated energy solutions for industrial manufacturers. The Sedo Vinako project marks the beginning of SolarBK's journey in commercial Solar + BESS deployment and provides a solid foundation for supporting more manufacturers in optimizing energy costs, improving operational performance, and achieving increasingly ambitious sustainability goals.
Every business has different energy needs. SolarBK is ready to work alongside manufacturers to evaluate and develop tailored solutions, from rooftop solar to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), helping optimize energy performance and support long-term sustainability goals.
